Philoptochos

This women’s auxiliary group was founded about 100 years ago on a national level and is supported by local chapters within our parishes. It is an organization for women dedicated to supporting the needy and the poor. The name Philoptochos means “lover of the poor.”

Although the group is not technically under the direct supervision of the priest, he serves as their spiritual leader and advisor. Men may also join the group as non-voting members. The organization is governed on national, regional, and local levels by its own Board, led by an elected Executive Board.

Our local chapter supports St. Demetrios by cooking for our St. Demetrios Vespers, decorating the Kouvouklion on Holy Friday, and organizing a coat and sock drive during the winter holiday season to help those in need.

If you are interested in joining or supporting this ministry, please see Antonia Yias for more information.
